Make a Portable Power Charger

Set the 12-volt deep cycle battery into the wooden box. This box will become the housing of the portable charging device.

 
 
Place screws in the screw holes on the charge controller. Then use the screwdriver to attach the charge controller to the outside of one of the sides of the wooden box. This secures the charge controller to the portable charging device.
 
 
Strip back one inch of the plastic cover from both ends of the 14-gauge black wire. Use the wire stripper to do this.
 
 
Strip back one inch of the plastic cover from both ends of the 14-gauge red wire. Again, use the wire stripper for this.
 
 
Open the point for the positive connection on the charge controller's output with the screwdriver. Then join one of the ends of the black wire to the point for the positive connection. On the other stripped end of the black wire, use the screwdriver to fasten the battery connector. Then connect the black wire to the positive post of the battery.
 
 
Open the point for the negative connection on the charge controller's output with the screwdriver. Then join one of the ends of the red wire to the point for the negative connection. On the other stripped end of the red wire, use the screwdriver to fasten the battery connector. Then connect the red wire to the negative post on the battery. The battery and charge controller are now joined in the partially completed charging circuit.
 
 
Fasten the negative wire of the inverter with its attached battery fastener to the negative post of the battery.
 
 
Fasten the positive wire of the inverter with its attached battery fastener to the positive post of the battery. Then place screws into the screw holes on the inverter. Now use the screwdriver to attach the inverter to one of the sides of the box. The inverter is now joined in the charging circuit, and has been attached to the portable charging device.
 
 
Fasten the negative wire of the 12-volt power receptacle with its attached battery fastener to the negative post of the battery.
 
 
Fasten the positive wire of the 12-volt power receptacle with its attached battery fastener to the positive post of the battery. Now place screws in the screw holes on the 12-volt power receptacle. Next, attach it to the outside of one of the sides of the box using the screwdriver. The charging circuit now has the 12-volt power receptacle connected to the circuit. The 12-volt power receptacle is also connected to the portable charging device.
 
 
Open the point for the negative connection on the charge controller's input with the screwdriver. Then join the solar panel's negative wire to the negative connection point.
 
 
Open the point for the positive connection on the charge controller's input with the screwdriver. Then join the solar panel's positive wire to the positive connection point. The solar panel is now connected to the charging circuit. Now place the solar panel in sunlight in order to begin generating electricity for the portable power charger.
 
 
Place the Ni-Cad batteries into the Ni-Cad battery charger. Then place the Ni-Cad battery charger into the box.
 
 
Plug the Ni-Cad battery charger into the 12- to 120-volt inverter. The portable charging device is now complete. Leave the Ni-Cad batteries in the battery charger for 16 hours or overnight and they will be fully charged. The portable charging device can be carried by placing the solar panel into the box and lifting the box to carry it with you.
