Hook a Car Amp to a Battery Charger
Disconnect the power wire from the amplifier to ensure that no power goes to the amp. Ensure that the battery charger is turned off.
Cut the wire to the length needed to reach from the charger to the amp using wire cutters. Strip the outer cover of the power wire using wire strippers. Do not cut the two wires on the inside of the cover.
Pull the two wires apart and twist the negative (copper) wire together tightly. Strip the positive (silver) wire's cover and twist it together tightly.
Connect the negative wire to the negative connector on the battery charger. Tighten the connector. Connect the positive wire to the positive connector on the charger. Turn the charger to "Power" and reconnect the power cord to the amp.
Connecting a car amplifier to a battery charger is one way to power the amp, but must be done correctly or you can damage the charger and amp. Inside the power cord for the amp are a positive wire and a negative wire. The negative wire is copper colored and surrounds the concealed positive wire, which is silver colored. You must connect these wires to the charger, but the charger must be capable of powering components and not just charging them.
